* Donation: Blue-throated Macaws
SKU: D-BTMA
Found only in Bolivia and once thought to be extinct in the wild, the Blue-throated Macaw (Ara glaucogularis) was rediscovered in 1992. Due to trapping, the wild population remains dangerously low, numbering in the low hundreds, and with less than ten known pairs producing young in most years.
In 2002 the World Parrot Trust (WPT) launched a comprehensive, long-term conservation program to better understand the species’ ecology and develop strategies to aid its long-term survival. WPT biologist, Igor Berkunsky, is working with an international team to locate, protect, and encourage the recovery of this species in the wild.
Now in its eight year of operation, the program has grown to include dozens of local, regional and international participants who work together to aid this species, which hovers on the brink of extinction.

Through this sustained and collective effort, many important discoveries have already been made about the species’ habitat, its unique nesting ecology, and the factors limiting its recovery. Predator control, chick supplementation and active support of wild nests are helping to ensure each breeding season's success.
The timing for action is urgent and the need is great. Please show your support today!
